How to Enable Theft Detection on Android 16

Android 16 has officially launched with a game-changing security suite designed for the Galaxy S26 Ultra. The standout feature is Theft Detection Lock, which uses the device's high-precision accelerometer and gyroscope to detect the specific kinetic motion of a "snatch-and-run" theft. When the AI detects this sudden acceleration followed by rapid travel, it locks the screen instantly.

1. Activating the AI Shield

To set this up, go to Settings > Security and privacy > Lost device protection > Theft protection. Toggle on Theft Detection Lock. During setup, the phone may ask you to calibrate your typical "handheld" motion to avoid false positives during a jog or a sudden movement.

2. Offline Device Lock & Identity Check

Beyond the snatch-detection, you must enable Offline Device Lock. This ensures that if a thief immediately puts your S26 Ultra into a signal-blocking bag or Airplane Mode, the device locks the moment the connection is severed. Pair this with Identity Check, which mandates biometric authentication for changing sensitive settings, even if the device is already unlocked—preventing thieves who saw your PIN from locking you out of your Samsung Account.

3. Remote Lock via Phone Number

Android 16 introduces a simplified Remote Lock. If your phone is stolen, you no longer need to remember your full Google Account password in a panic. Go to android.com/lock on any browser, enter your verified phone number, and complete a quick pre-set security challenge. This will hard-lock the device and prevent any further data access or factory resets.
